INTRODUCTION

These are amazing times for sim racing. With Virtual Reality and Direct Drive steering wheels entering the scene, new levels of realism are being reached. At DOME we take full advantage of these developments and add an extra layer. By letting racing drivers configure both hardware and software we make sure you get an experience that is in many ways the perfect preparation for real racing.

DOME VR

Sim racing starts here! DOME VR is a turn key solution. A fully functional racing simulator based on Virtual Reality. It is also your starting point for further customisation. Rather than relying on consumer grade hardware this simulator is build with products used in the racing industry.

The custom made aluminum chassis fully integrates all of the computer and steering wheel electronics. Cable management is tidy. But the most important feature is its rigidity. Why is rigidity important? Any flex in the chassis results in a delay of the actual input on the steering wheel / braking pedals. All real racing seats can be made to fit on the chassis. A racing seat and a seat slider are included.

VIRTUAL REALITY

As the name suggests the simulator always comes equipped with an Oculus Rift VR headset. The immersion in VR racing is on another level. Previously a triple monitor setup was the way to go, although still a possibility when ordering we strongly recommend trying virtual reality to see the future of sim racing.

INCLUDED

COMPUTERS

Our computers are state of the art. Miniaturised to be integrated into the chassis. We use only high grade components. The simulator comes with an already strong graphical processing unit. With a six core processor at 4.1 GHz to go nicely along. Options are available to get the most out of your hard-and software.

VR screen resolution starts at 2 x 1080×1200 while being refreshed at 90fps. That accumulates to a whopping 233.3 million pixels pushed from the computer to your VR headset every second. If you want all the environmental and car details and minimal lag while racing against a full grid of cars an upgrade is highly recommended. Consisting of the latest in Computational and Graphical Processing Units paired with ultra fast memory and SSD storage ensures you have the best experience possible.

STEERING BASE

INCLUDED

The most important piece of gear in a simulator. Lower end simulators use cogs to deliver the force feedback. This can feel pretty choppy. And the amount of positions in a full turn are very limited.

A little higher up the ladder are belt driven systems. Utilising a belt eliminates most of the problems a cog driven system has. Making the wheel much smoother.

Next up is direct drive. Driven by magnets this system operates incredibly smooth. The directness of delivering every bump, change of tarmac, under and over steer is unrivalled on a direct drive system. These servo motors deliver up to 20Nm of force and do so at enormous speed if necessary. Other advantages are the precision, with a resolution of 2,097,152 counts per revolution and the lower latency when comparing to belt and cog driven systems. Used by F1 teams direct drive is considered the best in the industry.

PEDALS

Pedals are an underestimated piece of equipment when it comes to simulators. Getting the right “feel” to brake with confidence in a car without ABS is one of the more difficult things in racing. Laptime is highly dependable on the braking performance of a driver. These sim pedals use a load cell censor to make sure you get the right muscle to brain feedback. This allows you to both brake hard or subtle with more consistency. Go for the upgrade if you drive faster racing cars like Formula/LMP or GT cars where high pressure braking is required.

A wheel mounted display with 13 digits can be added to display several useful bits of information, i.e. current gear, laptime, lapdelta etc. The shift light indicator is shown by 13 led’s. 6 more led’s can be used as warning lights. The display is fully programmable and supported by all mayor racing games. If using a triple monitor setup or you just like the aesthetics, this upgrade is recommended.

MONITORS

Triple monitors where once the holy grail of sim racing. Now VR is taking over by giving you the sense of presence.

There are still some advantages when using a triple monitor setup. Monitors offer better sharpness. They also make you less susceptible to motion sickness. Most people can get used to VR by gradually lengthening the time spend with the headset. But if this is not the case for you or you just sometimes want to race without VR goggles on your head a triple monitor setup is the next best thing.

Not every monitor is the same. We offer only low latency, low lag monitors. Our lineup starts with 60 Hz frequency monitors but we prefer 144 Hz because the human eye can see much more than 60 frames per second, making 144 Hz that much smoother. Size wise we offer 27” and 32” models. The latter making everything a bit more real when it comes to scale. 1080p is the standard resolution. If you want more sharpness go for 1440p. Both a higher resolution and a higher frequency require a more powerful computer.

27″ SINGLE MONITOR

Included with the simulator is a single 27″ monitor. Not suited for high end gaming it is still a very decent monitor used to start software and play casual games.

AUDIO SYSTEMS

The VR headset comes equipped with integrated headphones. They deliver great positional audio. But there can be times when you would like to use an external sound system for which there is an output on the simulator.  For instance when it is hot or when you want the neighbours to enjoy some of your engine sounds. We offer two sets that can be fully integrated. A sound bar which delivers 2.0 sound and a 5.1 system. The latter the much more powerful option also including a subwoofer.

SOFTWARE

There is plenty good software around. Standard configuration leaves a lot the be desired. To get the most out of your hardware we make sure the software is correctly setup from the get go. This is paramount to your experience.

IRACING

What iRacing does well is not only deliver convincing physics but it also has a robust online ladder system. This allows you to fine tune your race craft. A license system is combined with a safety rating to make sure that when you get better you will also face stronger competition. You need to maintain your safety rating before you can climb the ladder and race in higher classes. This makes sure racing is relatively fair and clean. iRacing is online only and you pay a yearly subscription. Tracks are laser scanned and cars are made with great care. You buy every car and track separately. This piece of software gets the most out of your direct drive steering wheel.

iRacing comes with 16 cars and 15 tracks, road, dirt and oval racing. We fully endorse iRacing and do configurations on a per car basis. We offer a few cars/track packages which get the same treatment.

Still going strong. No real updates are being made to this “older” simulator software but it is stil being used by many for it’s customisability. VR support is lacking but the ability to load your own car model and the still sophisticated physics make sure rFactor is still around.
